Hi guys..I have a 2005 RK custom bone stock..with 16000 kilometers...I had a guy come over to my house last night to buy something of me...he has a 2006 ex police bike from the states with 23000 kilometers..he has heavy duty battery..abs brakes.. driver and passenger back rests ..lockable abs bags ..rear crash bars ..rev counter..this is what he was saying did not actually see the bike yet...anyway he sat on my bike and like the feel of it , the bar set up and low stock seat...to get to the point he asked me if I would be interested in trading bikes..would there be any differences in the motor ..being ex..police
I would be interested to see what you guys think of this trade..if it happens..
Thanks brummie....PS..Mine is a black bike mint...he has blue and white, he says is better than mine, have to see..
Police bike has ugly red switches on the bars, Ugly hocky puck saddlebags, Been ridden like it was stolen(probably) but probably kept on a pretty tight maintenance schedule. Same motor, same trans. I'm assuming his is a FLHT police model. If so you get the faring which is a plus. If his is so much nicer why does he wanna trade?
Yea, this doesn't make any sense.. I could see if he was going to give you some money.. You would be trading a bike with more miles, and a police model. They are typically worth less. You also have a RK Custom, these were limited and one of the coolest models made IMHO.. You can get a tach on ebay for $50, and all the other extras (minus ABS) for cheap. I would suggest not doing this deal. Also, black vs Cop Blue and White.. no thanks..
I agree with the others. Cop bikes are worth less money. The only advantage I see is ABS.
ABS is nice. I'd keep the custom or else trade up to a 2009 or above to get the new frame, 96" and 6 speed. now if he'd give you a couple grand then yea I'd give it a lot of consideration. $2k will do a good 95" kit.
The abs on the pre-08 Police bikes was made by Nissin, and isn't nearly as good a system as the newer Brembo abs. I disliked mine so much that I removed it from my bike. The abs pump sits behind the right saddlebag, and takes about half the usable space from that bag. I was able to swap my bags for civilian ones and regained all the space in the right saddlebag.
Brummie, The Twin Cam cop bikes do not have 'special performance motor' if that's what you are thinking.
many of the Evo cop bikes had hipo motors ( like mine) milled heads to bump compression, special cams ( similar to Andrews EV3), better brakes and clutch. In return you get a bikes that's been hammered. But it was cheap -$4500 in 1990 when there was a 2 year wait for new bikes.
Over the years cop bikes have been made to order and can be just cosmetics, sometimes with performance, sometimes with low compression motor for parade duty.
Hi guys,
i think you guys have made up my mind for me, i am going to keep the road king custom...but he does have his old police single seat, that i think i am going to trade for my stock duel seat...nobody is raving about this trade so i think i will stick with the custom road king. The guy basically wanted to trade as he is a bit older, and thought his particular bike seemed a bit heavy, may be it was just the way he had things set up......he is going to bring it around next week, with the seat i will take a look then...i will let you guys know what i thought of his bike...thanks for your input..brummie from canada...
