I picked up some SE Slip ONs . I was told when buying them on from a private owner online that they are Screamin Eagle Stage 1 style pipes, in other words (say) a step up from stock and just a little louder....As I was installing the second muffler, the stamp on the pipe state "Not for on road use" racing closed course only....(buyer beware right) however. I was almost done, so i just finished the install. They are quite a bit louder esp on accell....
I guess my question is....how will this hurt (or will it hurt) my 2005 Road Glide...on the little bit of riding i have done, i havnt noticed any ill effects. But i was wondering if anyone with knowledge can tell me what the risks are....
Sorry to hear. Now you are trapped into riding your bike on the track only!
OK, kidding. You are fine. That stamping is necessary for Harley to cover their butts so they can sell these mufflers. You will notice that most of their aftermarket "performance" parts are labeled with some kind of "not for street use" malarkey. Doesn't say much for the stock configuration does it?
By the way, if you decide to put a high flow air handler such as that used in a Stage 1 performance upgrade, you will then need to incorporate some kind of fuel management solution. Otherwise, your air/fuel mixture will be too lean, causing heat, runability issues, and possible engine damage. If you ask your dealer, he will most likely steer you to toward a $150 stage one ECM calibration. What it does is compensate for the increased air flow through your motor (high-flow air handler, high-flow mufflers) and tunes the bike back to a condition similar to the stock air/fuel ratio. Another very popular product is the Dyno Jet Power Commander or possibly a Vance and Hines FuelPak. Lots of stuff out there on the forum. A few searches and you will have more than you can read in a week.
