I am a happy owner of a 2009 street glide. I recently did some work to the it, and I FORGOT to fill the primary oil when putting everthing back. I know... it's pretty stuipid !@#!@#!$@# . As I noticed to abnormal nosie coming from the primary, I took it to the shop right away for a check up. when the tech trying to drain the oil from the primay, of course he's got nothing coming out, but metal file on the drain plug, then we open the derby cover, I can see the metal file is sitting inside of the primary cover, so right away I know the damage is bad..... I almost fainted lol... now the shop is gonna repair it for me. I am just wondering the worest case serario here.... Thanks.
how many miles did you put on the bike while it had no oil in primary
worst case senerio is your inner primary bearing needs replacement...your clutch basket needs replacement...your compensator needs replacement...your chain needs replacement.....if your stator is burned, that will need replacement.

I would tend to think you will have to replace your entire tool set and anything else you have in your garage.
The damage is done. You might want to resoak your clutch plates.
I'm with the fill and ride gang. If something shows up you'll know it. It isn't the first time this has happened. Just don't ride too far from the house for a few hundred miles.
Buddy of mine did it. Melted the tensioner shoe. Replaced the shoe, refilled with oil and was good to go. That happened many thousands of miles, burnouts and wheelies ago. On a '02 bagger with a 103...
the stater wont be effected, it really has no moving parts besides the rotor, but it spins in free air on the crank bearing.the clutch plates will work wet or dry as long as you dont slip them til they fry.the compensator, primary chain, and sprockets rely on oil to lube them, most likely where the steel shavings came from. the chain still would have oil on it,not much different then a drive chain running a little dry(you can go a lot of miles that way).there is a bearing on the inner primary/main shaft and in the clutch hub.they should be checked..oil is needed in your primary, but it isn't as critical as you would think.its not like inside of an engine or transmission..i would check the two bearings, rinse the primary out with brake cleaner, then refill the oil and ride.
