Thanks much guys....I tend to be leaning towards the ultra, now seeing if the road glide ultra or ultra classic will work...going to ride both....but thinking buy the time I put all that loot into mine, seams a little much....

But considering years, is it worth going for an 07 or better to get the 96, also seamed that the frame change made a difference in the handling, but I'm not sure if it made a big difference...I think I would like to find an 10 if I can....thinking and processing the money and everything involved....headed to myrtle fall bike week....maybe get some saddle time in the ultra's...see what's best and see if I can strike a deal...
bought my 2010 RK there...was a great dealer exsperiance....good dealer man...worth buying there...

thanks MUCH all!!!!, Red

If you had a Road Kind that was paid for it may be cost effective to convert it to a full dresser but you still will not have the same thing as a real UC. There been a few here that has done a very nice job converting their RKC.

I actually was in the process of doing it to my '07 Road King Classic to the point of having bought hard bags and a tour pak. That's as far as I got.

Good luck with your decision. I know from personal experience get what you want. I started on a 08 Heritage, traded it in on a 2011 EG Limited so the ol would ride more. She didn't ride more so I traded it in on my 08 Roadking. I miss the fairing but still don't want another sofa so for me I will be getting a removeable fairing for the King...DragonFly, Hoppe, etc. By going the route I have chosen I feel I will have the best of both worlds. RK without the windscreen & a touring model with the fairing & tunes. Only you can make that decision though. Good luck on your choice.

I turned my Police Electra Glide into an Ultra... It can be done and not cost an arm and a leg - the key is to find good deals on used parts, and you must be patient. Best of luck.

What about the "convertible" factor? You could deck it all out to be a full dress, and/or strip it back down to just a street glide, or go further and back to a Road King.

The fun factor as Rushbass describes is the hunt and chase to find the deals and out it all together, and have the flexibility to make it how you want...

BUT - if the ultimate goal is to just "have" an Ultra, now, then get an Ultra.

I'm with those in favor of the converible factor. I love to ride my RK without the window. But I also love that for a long hiway trip or cold weather (or if I know it's going to rain) I can pop the window on and have it that way. Have been thinking about a detachable fairing to keep the cold wind off my hands in the winter. Add lowers and a tour pack and you're there, but without all the gizmos. As has been stated, you then have 3 bikes in one, and everyone knows there's no such thing as enough motorcycles!

Guys your right...I'm thinking of keeping my RK for now and do some searching and seeking on this issue...your right I can have many situations on one bike...plus my bike is clear, paid for...

As far as the detachable fairing goes, has anyone found one with a tack hooked to it or know of anyone that took the police tack off and mounted it some other way...???
maybe get a woody hollow fairing, keep the tach and then buy the audio boom system mounted speakers on the handle bars and then stick the amp-radio in the fairing somehow...velcrow or something, same with putting your ipod in there somehow...interesting..hummmm

also I'm in search of a really good seat now so I can go the long distance and be in comfort...being 6-5 looking for that good comfort and back support

Thanks gang for the info....it really helps...

Andy
