Default shift shaft seal replacement on 2002 FLHT

So I've developed this small annoying leak which drips at the primary cover near the drain plug. If it is the shift shaft seal behind the washer on the tranny, how is this seal removed? The dealers manual shows the seal, but my manual does not. (?) Anyhow, I'm gonna opt for the dye in the primary or tranny to prove which is leaking before I do anything, just looking for tips.
Thanks.
I realize I've posted in the wrong section.

Shift shaft seal replaced at 27,000 miles. Now at 46,000 another trans leak. Red drop under bike. Run redline in transmission and Formula+ in primary so certain it's a transmission leak. Have the service manual and parts book, still don't know nothin'. JIMS sent email about their shift shaft seal replacement tool, so need some knowledge here. Would like to take care of this myself.

Take a small drill, and drill two holes on each side of the seal.
Then take two drywall screws, and screw them in until they are snug.
You should be able to just pull on the screws to get it out.

I did the same as above sort of, but fabricated an actual puller that I keep on hand now.

I had a similar leak on my 04 RK. It would drip from the bottom of the bike, roughly in line with the drain plug. It didn't look like it was leaking from the plug, more like it was coming from somewhere 'up and underneath' the bike. Mine turned out to be, I'd forgotten to torque the drain plug after changing the primary fluid. I'd put it back in, finger-tight, but forgot to wrench it. (Doesn't take much torque, think it's inch-pounds scale). It wouldn't leak, sitting. But after I rode any distance, out it would come. More of a 'sheen' of lube, rather than a run, or a drip. The wind must have smoothed and flattened it out, and blew it onto the bottom of the bike, where it collected. After a 30 or 40 minute ride, I'd get a few drops under the bike on the ground/floor after I'd stop (and after having wiped everything off under there real good before hand). The Formula+ didn't appear to be coming from the plug. But it sure was.

If you haven't already, I suggest you inspect the o-ring seal, replace if it's not perfect, and make sure the drain plug is torqued to spec, and go from there.

Alan
