can the shift shaft seal be changed without removal of the primary??/ if so how,, i think i could pick it out but worried that i wont be able to get it back in,, any tricks?? can it be done/,, i hate leaks ,,just a drop or two here and there but would like to fix it
thanks mike
I also like to use a homemade puller that I made. Pulls 'me off slick
Did the exact same thing when I replaced mine. That old seal won't just fall out and there's no picking it. Just go easy with the drill wheel you punch two holes in the old one for the screws to seat into.

Agreed. Pulling the primary is easy potatoes with a manual and the right parts.
Some good videos on YouTube. Just remember, the Mainshaft nut in the clutch basket is a left-handed thread. Right to loosen, left to tighten.
do i have to remove the clutch assm.?? any special tools needed?
Yes you need to pull the clutch and compensator. You will need a locking bar which can be a small piece of flat stock. You will need a large socket purchased separately unless you already have a 1 3/16 socket. The compensator takes 1 1/2 socket. A breaker bar is nice, but a piece of pipe can be put over the ratchet and get the job done. To remove the inner primary bearing you can use a socket and a jack underneath a car as leverage if you don't have a press.
