road king engine problems
Might be fuel pump. I had a tiny hole in the fuel pump housing. When I was low on fuel It would suck in air in addition to fuel. Only happened when I was low on gas. Replaced and now all is fine.
snot, blood or tobacco juice?

is this like a "sneeze" or backfire through the carb?
if so:
1.) overly lean mixture - this can happen at a transition point in the programming, or indicate intake manifold leak, fuel delivery problem ( other than programming).
check intake manifold first, spraying wd40 ( messy) or water at connections to heads. if the idle picks up or changes, you have a leak
check programming by reinstalling stock air cleaner if high flow air cleaner is installed ( the fix would be to get programming sorted out to use hi flow)
2.) too advanced ignition timing ( unlikely if stock ignition system)
3.) cam timing off, bent stuck, leaking intake valve or pushrod or lifter allowing compression stroke to push back through to intake ( unlikely, but stuff does break- and would be worse at speed)
