The co-pilot and I were on vacation in late August. Riding the bike up through VA, PA and NY. While riding from Watkins Glen, NY to Tionesta, PA my check engine light came on. Shortly my battery discharge light came on. Knowing my battery was only two months old I figured the problem was in my charging system. I wanted to get to the campground in Tionesta (the Army Corp of Engineers Camp Ground) so I foolishly pushed the bike to get there. Of course the battery was drained and the bike was DOA. We got the camp site set up and the next morning I used my Zumo to find the nearest HD dealer. Happened to be back in NY at Jamestown. These guys had my bike picked up by noon (paid for by my HOG membership) and I was at the dealership by 14:00. It turned out to be my voltage regulator and they did not have one in stock. They were on back order from Harley but they could have one sent over night from another dealership. I really did not want to be away from our camp site over night so they took one off of an 08 model they had on the floor and gave me a used price on it. We were back on the road before 16:30 and at our camp site in time to make dinner. We all hear horror stories about some dealerships but I was truly impressed by this group of people and I just wanted to give them their due.
.
By the way, the ACOE camp ground at Tionesta is a great place to stay!
It's nice to hear a good feedback story once and a while.
While we always hear the bad stories (the usual forum stuff) we should remember that the dealers are people too , and there are some really nice ones out there.
Hope your trip was memorable and safe.
Nice post.
Mick
I grew up about 20min from Jamestown on the PA side, and my dad always had to go to Jamestown HD to get his bike serviced. They were always great and I never heard him say anything bad about the place.
PS- Next time you're up that way, make sure you stop at AJ Texas Hots. 3 of the best hot dogs you can get for $2!! Sometimes I pretend I want to see my folks just so I can get some AJ's. lol
I was in there a few weeks ago and we started talking to an employee and it turned out to be the owner. He was a real down to earth guy. All of the pictures on the wall are of his family. His dad had a dealership near Buffalo and he started that one. All of the other employees were very willing to help it was a nice change.
A stop there cost me $280. Wife and I decided to drop in there on our way from Allegany Park to Chautauqua Lake. They has so many deals on clothes and boots going on that, well, I couldn't afford to save any more money. Nice prices, huge selection
