Default Installing a hidden antenna

I want to install a hidden antenna on my 04 EGlide Classic. How much of a pain the A$$ is it to get that fairing off and back on. Also any comments on the install and operation of the hidden anttenna will be appreciated. Thanks.

fairing is pretty easy. 6 screws that hold the side deflector wings, 3 screws on the windshield, and a couple of hidden ones near the frame neck. disconnect the headlight and yo're good to go.

can say much for the antenna, but height does matter sometimes in picking up them distant stations on the road. go sirius, hide the antenna under the fairing, and you can listen all the time, anywhere on the road.

There are three windshield screws and 4 inner fairing torx screws that will let the outer fairing come off. Put towels or rags over the fender and passing lamps so you don't damage paint.

After you have the outer fairing loose, you need to disconnect the headlight wire to completely remove it.

As far as the antenna goes, just unplug the factory one and plug in the other and mount it securely with wire ties, 3M tape, etc.

"Dakota Digital" is a powered antenna that requires you to tap into a hot wire. It mounts to the inside of the outer fairing with 3M tape. With the "Tune Trapper", you can just wire tie it to some of the wires under the fairing.

I have experience with both of these. Niether will be quite as good as the factory whip, but both are adaquate unless you live way out in the boonies.

Regards,

Bill

Seems like I end up taking the outer fairing off all the time for something. An easy trick is to use an old pair of socks to stretch over the passing lamps. Protects them and the fairing and also makes it a little easier to slide around to get it off.

I would suggest a dab of lubricant on the screws before putting it back together and don't overtighten them. The lube seems to help from keeping the screws from stripping/crossthreading in the fairing. Which seems to be somewhat commen.

A cheapo rubber shorty antenna zip tied under the fairing works pretty darn good and will only set you back about 10 bucks.
