Today was the first day of a ten day trip. I started in Austin, Texas and am planning to visit Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and maybe Nevada.
About a half hour from dusk today I hit a deer. I didn't have much time to react and i was still doing about 55 when we collided. It's head hit my spotlight and blinker and the impact slung its body against the left side of the bike. Thankfully the bike didn't go down. There's damage to the spotlight, blinker, lower fairing, and tourpack. The deer was in much worse shape and had to be put down. As for me my left leg is swollen and hurts like hell from where the deer hit me, but I'm otherwise okay.
Mechanically the bike us fine and i plan to finish my trip.
I swear my ultra saved my life. I think the weight kept me from going down. It's one hell of a bike that cab collide with a deer and be ridden away.
I have a couple of photos but am posting from my phone, not sure how to upload the images.
Anyone know of a good dealer in between Amarillo and Denver? I want to pick up a new a nee spotlight and blinker lens.
Glad you are okay. I ride in the early morning hours on my way home from work. See a few occasionally on the sides of the road.
Fortunately, Ohio puts up deer crossing signs to show the deer where they are allowed to cross
