Seriously though, I just don't ride at night. Early morning and late evening can be dangerous too but better chance at seeing them than at night. Where I live usually see at least a couple of dead dear at least two or three times a week splatterd on the highway from the night before.

down along the border here in south texas, the deer are a huge problem. most of the ones that get hit are not using the "deer crossing" signs area. i think some of them are here illegally, and can't read english!! and a lot of the deer that get hit are young yearlings that have not been to school yet and learned how to read. there are lots of feral/wild hogs down here, and you see as many of them laying dead beside the roads as you do deer.

I'm glad you came away rubber side down. I think you should buy a lottery ticket, you're damn lucky.

Deer scare the hell out of me when I'm on my bike. I hope my pipes scare the hell out of them and they stay away.

I took a deer square in the grill of my Tahoe back in 2003. My Tahoe was out of commission for about a month while $5500 of repairs were made. Glad your Ultra is tougher than my old Tahoe...or maybe my Tahoe just had one mean deer.

I saw a thing on the news just yesterday that said (I may have the numbers wrong ) worldwide there are over $3 Billion spent on vehicle Vs. deer repairs. Yearly. That's a lot of venison.

Glad you are OK. That sounds like that made the cheeks pucker up. I can't help you with a dealership as I am not familiar with that area. But I can help you with that deer. I love canned deer meat

Down here in Texas, I am surprised they have not come up with grill guards (they are deer guards in my book) for motorcycles (:
Deer guards have saved me countless $$$ on my pickups. Thankfully they don't grow deer that big here in the Hill Country (well the big ones are behind high fences in management areas).
Just driving through our neighborhoods early morning or late afternoon can put you in on a collision course at 30 mph with deer.
I have to admit you are trooper continuing on. I hope I would do the same if the events were similar.
Best of luck on the rest of your ride. Keep those of us tied down to just afternoon romps around the country in your thoughts as you meander across the southwest.

Glad that you are OK. Also glad to hear that the bike can survive such an impact. I have had several close calls. I am absolutely sold on ABS as a result. Do post those pictures when you get back.
