Default Feedback on motor work!

Ok folks, I ordered a D&D fatcat 2-1 to install on my 2011 FLTRX with a 96 cu. inch, i currently have the PCV, and arlen ness big sucker. i was gonna do 525 gear drive cams installed by indy, dynoed with custom map but not sure that will get me my best bang for my buck(2 grand)? I've read posts here that say the gear drive is not necessary on the newer bikes with the hydraulic tensioner. So what upgrades would you recommend i had done? Big Bore kit? I'm wanting something reliable as well as just make me some more hp/tq. I know the FM 107 seems logical but the distance from me to them is substantial. Thanks for any and all Feedback!

Id go with a 103 or 107 kit, target 9.75 compression & bolt in torque cams.,
I think the gear drive, although very nice, is not needed with the new hyd tensioners.

Ive never dealt with FuelMoto but I have read many good things about their kits.

From a 96 if I was going to go up in a BB kit, the 107 would be a no brainer. As has been mentioned many times, the selection of components that compliment each other makes all the difference. I have dealt with FM for my Stage 1 and I couldn't be happier. I got the power I was looking for, the sound I was looking for, and my PV came with a map on it that was spot on. I installed everything in one afternoon with the help of a friend and I saved a lot of cash over going to the Moco for the same thing. The Moco's Race Tuner, dyne time and labor would have cost me the same as everything from FM.

Take your time and do some research, and be practical, it's easy to get caught up in the power race. There will always be someone faster, and these are not race bikes. That being said, a ton of power on a comfortable cruiser is a comfortable feeling that will leave a huge smile on your face.

I am currently debating on whether to drop cams in to my stock 103, or save some $$ for the 107 kit with cams. Yesterday I went for a ride with a buddy of mine, and when we got a clear stretch on the highway we opened it up. He recently got cams, my bike was maxed out and he waved bye bye and pulled on me in 6th gear..........

Decisions, decisions, isn't it fun

I have a 2010 with a 96, I don't know where your located, but I'm in FL, I plan to ride to Fuel Moto next spring to get a 107, heads, etc. I know it's a little distant but between personally talking with Jamie and all the reviews I feel it's worth it. I would've made the trip this year, but I wanted the bike to be out of warranty before I voided it.

Let me know when you head up and when you plan to do it. I plan to save the $ and do the same thing, we can ride up and back and split lodging costs.

Best bang for your buck IMHO is to do the work yourself. I swear to you swapping cams is easy. Even if you don't have the small amount of tools necessary, you can buy those, follow the manual and be hundreds ahead of what a shop would charge you. Not to mention you did the work. Not many places will take the time and care that you will.

If you decide to do that what about the tuning. Well, the Revolution Performance EMS will do the job without a dyno and its an auto tuner. Then you need to decide on cams. I went with 575's and they are a solid choice.

I'd do the cams first and then if its not enough go the 107 which apparently is even easier than the cams.

Anyway, I bought pushrods from FM, cams from Cyclerama and the EMS and 2 into 1 from Dragos. Frank is a solid guy and has the best prices going. Its my horn of plenty of parts which works great.
