Main breaker problem

I had this problem on my 03 FLHTCUI and they replaced the wire leads to the main breaker under the seat. I think there was a tech bulletin on this. That fixed my problem. The issue was that the leads were not conducting properly, causing the overheating. It's been several years ago, so best to ask your dealer..they can probably look it up. If the leads are the problem, replacing the breaker won't solve the issue.

Replacing the breaker will solve the problem. In 2004 the MoCo issued a recall to upgrade the 40 amp breaker to a 50 amp breaker. Then H-D replaced the 50amp CB with a 40-amp fuse in the 2004 models. If I have an electrical short, I'd prefer to have the fuse blow, and then try to determine the problem, then to risk frying all my electronics.
