Default 2012 RG Custom or SG ?

Well the time is drawing near to pull the trigger on one of these babies but i am struggling with which one.

I test rode them both last weekend and the RG rides better and has better protection from the wind. For me it was really cool and has a certain presence. I love the look of the front end but nobody else i know does, including the family. The SG has the looks but didnt ride as well in my opinion as far as wind buffeting goes and i would need to change the screen, bars and seat . Basically i really like both for different reasons and i am going to mod the bike up with wheels, stretched bags, solo seat, stretched tank etc. I have seen both bikes modded up and both are fantastic.

One day i love the RG, next day the SG...... at least its a good dilemma to have so will sleep on it for a few days and see what happens. If anyone has a 2012 in these models i would love to get some feedback.

just take your time and make the right decision. it's not like they'll be out of roagdlides or streetglides in a few weeks. i am very happy with my streetglide and it depends on the windshield a lot. the short screen is useless, although it looks cool on the showroom floor.

I was in the same position as you about a month ago...
Get what YOU like, NOT what everyone else thinks they like..

To me I enjoyed the ride of the roadglide more and really thought the fixed fairing made it much smoother at highway speeds...

One of the decideding factors for me was that everyone has a streetglide.. The RGC has a unique look and really started to grow on me...

After a month of riding, I have no doubt I made the right decision..

I rode both on Saturday.

The road glide is big and ugly and different, which is cool if you like that sort of thing. I was on the SG riding next to the RG and it looked like a battleship moving thru traffic. Back on the bike the stereo was inaudible at any speed with a full face helmet. The speakers are that much further away than the SG and it just didnt work well. The ride was plush, soaking up bumps better than the SG. The stereo on the RG is further away, and would be hard to reach if you were short. The big fairing was quite buffetting for me at 55mph, but good at other speeds. At 90 I just leant forward and was right out of the wind, which was a weird sensation on a Harley!

Overall the street glide just worked better in my opinion. The stereo was within easy reach and audible, even with a full face on. The ride wasnt as plush but the rest of the bike really appealed. The buffetting was as noticable, but this tends to vary with rider anyhow.

Of course they both run a distant second to the king. Neither stereo was even 1/10 as good as a pair of Shure earbuds. I spent about 1/2 an hour on each bike and the whole time I just wanted to put my headphones in. The wind noise and traffic noise just meant that the music was greatly tarnished and not enjoyable to me. The road king nacelle out classes the bat wing and fugly shark nose. The ignition key and switch gear on the bat wing and RG feel really low rent, like cheap chinese stuff. The MOCO really needs to improve this as they dont feel like high end switches. The trip meter reset button on the RG looks wrong, again not thought out and looks like a cheap afterthought.

If you are buying it to ride it (and you wont buy a king) then the SG is the bike to buy. If you are buying it to make it into a rolling sculpture then it really doesnt matter I suppose.

My 2c.

Every HD is an extension of self, you know what you want and why you would listen to some mad australian when making such a purchase is a mystery!!

I'm biased obviously, but both have their merits.

I think stock SGs look way better than stock RGs. BUT.....with stretched bags, apes, fender, and wheels RGs look killer. But it's an investment. Sounds like you are willing to make that investment so you can't go wrong either way. Both have pros and cons. Get what you like more, and then make it yours.

... face it, you don't want to disappoint or confuse anyone else out there w/your choice of motorcycles.
....... it's just easier all around to go w/the sheepglide.... trust me, that Secret Society thing makes for lonely bike nites.
............. and ya won't get waved @ as much when yer on the road.

I'd buy a Streetglide , if you care more about what others think than the quality of ride , you are not ready for a Roadglide , kingkingking you may be correct stock but with upgrades you are very wrong , I rode a batwing for 10 years with upgrade speakers and amp , I've done the same to my Shark and with a better system hear better with it being a little back

I traded my 07 FLHT STD for a 2011 FLTRX 103. IMO, the FLTRX cuts through the wind much better & handles better.

Well, RG vs SG is really the eternal dilemma, for sure. I know the Road King has the fuller rear suspension, but I thought the Street and Road Glides had exactly the same "slammed" rear suspension. Please advise.
