belt tension/deflection
I need to reinstall my rear tire and the manual mentions a deflection tool/guage which I don't have. I know I'm not the only one. What rule of thumb for measuring tension/tightness in the belt.

you should be able to use your finger just pull up till it starts to have resistance and then measure. Another way was to take the measurement from pivot bolt to axle bolt before you remove the wheel.

Twisting the belt (twisting it from left side to right side) at the midway point to a 45* angle is the general rule of thumb. Usually making a witness mark on the axle cam is a good idea when it comes to reinstalling the wheel.

Tough to get your man fingers in there anyway so it is a decent effort but you don't need a cheater bar. That is what I do, I tend to not let it get over 45 degrees on the loose side and live with some where close to 40 degrees to 45 degrees depending on my ranges of effort to twist the belt.
