windshield height
I'm 6'1". From my experience, if you look over the windshield by an inch or two, the wind will hit at the top of your helmet.
To get the wind completely over your head you need a windshield tall enough that you are looking through it all the time, and a lot of people, me included, don't like that.
My experience is with a Batwing. With a RoadGlide fixed fairing the windshield is farther in front of you so my observations may not apply.

you are probably getting the wind to your ears from under the fairing, I have a batwing, and do not know how different it is, but when I put on my soft lowers the ear wind goes away. I have a 15" wind screen, a fork baffle, fork deflectors and the fairing wings. still get the wind to the ears until the lowers are on.
