Best Exhaust for Touring Models
my previous bike was a 2007 CVO Springer, I had the Rinehart cross-back exhaust on it with 2 1/4" baffles.. it was LOUD! and sounded beautiful!
when I bought the '10 FLTRX I wanted a good sounding exhaust but I still wanted to be able to hear the radio (one of the reasons I bought FLTRX).
I have always loved the look of the '09 and later CVO touring bikes 4" mufflers. so I bought a set of used '10 CVO Street Glide mufflers and put fullsac 2" baffles in them, I also bought the fullsac X pipe to replace the stock restrictive head pipe..
I'm more than happy with the sound, it's not anywhere near as loud as my CVO Springer was, but the sound is deep and I can hear both the exhaust AND my radio just fine! LOL!
BUT - aesthetics are so critical and while I've run 2:1's when every #/ft. of torque was most important to me, I'll give it up for the 'balanced look' of duals -- and no, a ghostie just doesn't do it for me... I know, I know -- picky picky...
I have not noticed LSRs mentioned.... and I'm not going there either.
+2 on CFRs for pure sound -- but has anyone successfully dyno tuned them on a TC duals? Just curious.
Finally, I am of the opinion that you cannot get the old time 'sound' from a TC that is the beloved sound of a shovel or a knuck.... my 2 cents....
My bike runs fine with the true duals and the PCV map I have and it runs much cooler.
Could I get a few more ponies out of my engine with a professional dyno tune? Most likely. Is it worth it? Not for me.
If I was after every HP and ft/lb possible, I'd start by changing the cams. Then, instead of a dyno tune, I'd look into an AutoTune module.
My 0.02cts.
My bike is an 06 Ultra with a ST1EFI Kit,EFI Race Tuner Kit and Super Trapp mufflers #628-78055.My questions:with the above mods do I have to use the same brand/model mufflers?does STrapp supply just the one damaged muffler instead of the pair? Thanks

That said, to me, there is no sound like CFRs. I have spoken with two guys I know who are running them and three engine builders/dyno tuners with whom I have experience and trust, and of those, none have been as satisfied in tuning CFRs as some of the other popular dual exhaust choices.
...just sayin what I've heard. The reason I have checked with them is because the very first set of CFRs I heard made me wheel around to find out what system produced that sound.... the reason I asked the question regarding successful tuning of CFRs is because I'm trying to find a reason to justify going from the dual system I'm running (cored OEM headers/mufflers) which sounds good (to me) and runs so much cooler than OEM without any decel pops etc...
It's like oil, cams, ad nauseum.... greener pastures... etc. always lookin... and askin...
And I appreciate your response -- as far as I can see, we agree... cheers!
As for the OP's question, He didn't say what he plan's to change other than exhaust. Need some more info!
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
It makes good dyno #'s (103h/113t on mine) but the sound it so god awful. Tingy,Loud, crackley under decel, forget about the radio above 60, deaf at the end of the day!
Prolly switch it out for a V&H Pro Pipe in the spring. That pipe sounds sweet to me. Deep rumble at idle and cruising and barks pretty good under hard acceleration. Doubt I'll lose much if any on the dyno.
