Default What should oil pressure be?

Have a new Street Glide 96 ci engine. What should the oil pressure be at idle and at speed? Right now with about 1100 miles on the bike my oil pressure gage shows almost zero at idle and at about 2500 rpm's it's at about 30 lbs. Sound low? Let me know what you guys think. It will be in the dealer for the 1000 mile check up this week. Thanks

You know, I just was wondering this myself. I happened to be watching oil pressure gauge this weekend, and noticed that when I pull on the throttle, it drops to almost zero. When at speed and just cruising, it's at 32 or better.

Not sure if it's normal, and I'm ashamed to admit I never noticed it before. I've got my owners' manual right here, time to take a look...

Thats normal. Oil pump is engine driven so pressure is related to engine speed

Same here. Never had looked before. Just happen to be at a stop light and noticed. Now I'm looking.

At operating temp, mine is about 12-16 at idle and 30-32 at cruising speeds. The only time I've ever seen it below 12 is when it's really, really, hot.

Mine has always run about 15 at idle fully warmed up and about 34 cruising. Only time i see it down below 12 is when it is really hot oil temps over 240. I don't know if the new bikes have the useless air temp gauge but one of the best piece of mind up grades I have done was to remove the gauge and install an oil temp gauge in its place. Sure is nice to see oil temp. I know what the air temp is.

Same here. My Street Glide will show 8-10 lbs at idle even when it's really hot.

Just checked my owners manual and it says nothing about oil pressure.

Looked in the Service Manual and here's what it says (2011 manual pg 3-16)...

At 230 deg F; 5 psi minimum at idle; 30-38 psi @ 2,000 rpm; 50 psi maximum.
