Many of our customers with radios and passengers are happy with the 2.50" baffle size. They have told me it's not loud enough to hurt your ears on long rides, but if you twist the throttle people will know you are there. I agree with that statement.

Rush slip-ons use 16 ga steel which is thicker than stock and some aftermarket systems, plus we use a fiberglass mat to wrap the baffle. Combining those elements greatly reduces any tin can sounds and provides a deep solid throaty tone.

Great write-up - very helpful for those of us who choose to keep our stock headers (and cats). Thank you.

I have a few follow-up questions, if you don't mind:

Do Rush mufflers have a tone that is "typical to the manufacturer"?
What is the warranty period for Rush mufflers?
What is the average life expectancy for the baffles?

Thanks, again, Ryan.

So .... your going to have it dyno'd then? If so, the critical key will be the technician doing the dyno as to whether you will get a proper tune or not. The SEST will have 'canned' maps, but IMO will not be completely ideal with your specific setup.

All Rush slipons have a similar tone when compared to each other, and in my opinion so do Rineharts. V&H tone varies from product to product simply due to design, their Monster Ovals sound different than standard slip ons because the design is completely different.

Rush uses a spiral core baffle which is fiberglass mat wrapped in all of our slip ons. While the volume and pitch might change with baffle sizes, the overall sound has distinct similarities. I describe it as a deep solid throaty note with an aggressive growl to it. Similar to the muscle cars with glass pack exhaust. Please keep in mind the cat in the head pipe will limit the volume and tone of any aftermarket slip-ons.
We offer a 1 year warranty against manufacturer defects. Your best bet is to contact us directly with warranty issues. If it is clearly a defect and not damaged by the customer we have overlooked the 1 year limit. We also warranty discoloring when the product is installed properly following our tuning guidelines.
Life expectancy for the baffles is the same as the mufflers but mainly depends on how well they are taken care of. If your baffles ever become seized in place or rattle, definitely contact us. We also send free replacement fiberglass mats for our slip-ons if it ever blows out or breaks down but it should last at least 20,000 miles with a stock engine.
Members on the forum have reported 30,000 miles and everything still in great condition.

I recommend the 1.75" baffle size. The 2.00" is the most popular for use with open head pipes but a lot of people prefer the 1.75" because it will mellow out more at cruising speed. Both sizes have a deep tone at idle and aggressive growl when you crack the throttle. I recommend the 1.75" because I know a lot of people that switched from the 2.00" for radio and passenger reasons.

Ryan, for 2010-up Tourers with stock headers and cat, are the Big Louie's, with 2.5" baffles, radio/passenger friendly?

Thanks.

Is your 2011 Ultra a 96 or 103? How did it sound at idle/cruise with the stock header and cat and the Rush slip-ons? Were you happy with the tone and volume?

The 2011 is a 96...Yes the Rush 2.5 was GOOD with the Stock
Headers...But Wow just Perfect when changed to V&H power Duals
Stage 1 SERT and Dynoed....Lot of compliments from Riders behind me.
Just the Sound I was looking for....Only Question will be is when the wraps
start burning off...By the way, I didn't change Headers for the sound
I changed because of the Heat off of the converter...But WOW
glad I did. Love the Rush Tone....JMO
