Not going to help with the "sewing machine" noise. If you do no have that bang on start up, then no need to replace it yet. Wait until you have compensator symptoms before replacing. JMO
I've basically been told if it ain't broke, don't fix it....
Cant miss what you never had!
I put one on my 07 at 35k, my stock one started raattling and always had clunky shifting. After the install there is an amazing difference in smoothe shifting and no more primary rattle noise. Dont know why I waited so long. I understand they are now standard on all the new bikes now or in 2012.

Ok, I understand why to use the SE comp but if the stock comp doesn't rattle or clunk, why change it? I'll certainly go to a SE comp when the time comes but till then I'll keep the $180 for other required items.
I would leave it alone if you have no problem with the way the bike starts and shifts. Even though I wasn't having any trouble with the stock compensator I installed the SE upgrade when I had the primary apart for a tranny-bearing repair, and it did provide some favorable improvements. Most notably the "rifle-shot" or "thunderclap" noise after disengaging the starter is gone and my bike shifts more smoothly. My primary has always been noisy, mostly whine from the tensioner, so I wouldn't expect yours to run any quieter than stock after the upgrade.
Getting mine changed out to th SE o6A tommorrow, can't wait to try it out ! Dam tired of that Loud SNAP on start ups. People in the parking lots almost 100yrds away turn their heads like.....WTF was that !
Mine is sitting at the dealer waiting on a new one to arrive. I went to off load the bike for a bad fork seal went to fire it up with service manager sitting there and it was a loud pop and he said lucky you... you get a new SE compensator
