SE Compensator
If I decide to go ahead and change my front sprocket, I intend to change the comp while I'm in there, even though I've never had any noise or problems out of mine. Then I'm gonna be done!......honest, no more mods!!!!
I put the SE comp on my 07 Fatboy. Got rid of the start up "clunk/bang", but also smoothed out the drivetrain. Now when I crack the throttle it does not rattle, and just seems faster. The compensator acts as a shock absorber for the crankshaft, and the stock weak cranks need all the help they can get. There is a reason the 2012 touring bikes now come with the SE comp as standard equipment. It is an upgrade. Plus I put a chrome inner primary on while I had it apart...
I am going to put the SE comp and chrome inner primary on mine as well. I am also going to go with a 30 tooth to increase the acceleration in the lower gears. My buddy has a dyna with a mild 95" I can barely stay with him through 3rd gear. then its all over for him. The 07 gearing is pretty lazy off the line.
There has been much discussion about the SE compensator and "frettting"; some on this forum. The problem is the result of poor lubrication between the sprocket bore and shaft. Several have tried cutting grooves into the sprocket face but the lubricant must overcome centrifugla force to get between the sprocket bore and shaft. What I have heard from those that have compared the -06A parts witih the earlier parts is that there is no real difference and fretting will be an issue with the -06A parts as well. From what I hear and read, the SE compensators are an improvement but after 10K or more miles fretting starts to take a toll.

Both my bikes pre-date the new style compensator and the trick wtih those was to install a third spring. Very easy to do, cheap and the results are measureable, particulalry on higher compression, built motors. I have never looked at the later compensator parts but if there is a way to add a spring, that might be a more cost effective approach to solving the issue.
Fretting became an issue shortly after the SE compensator was introduced. Just posting the information and link for those that may not be aware.
