I don't know about many others, but I've had AAA for just over 25 years and have never had a problem, it's been a good investment for me, I also am a HOG member but have never used their road service.
I have AAA. Never had to use them, but based on my research, they're one of the better companies available. If you plan to leave the US, make sure the plan you choose covers you.
Ask your insurance agent if your policy offers emergency roadside assistance.
Used both Progressive and HOG last Sunday night, 250 miles from home coming back from Daytona, when the clutch cable broke at a red light. Called Progressive first, then got a computer call back saying the tow service would be there within 11 hours and 20 minuets. That's when I called HOG, got a real person right away and she took my number and said she would call me back as soon as she had something set up. She called back in 10 minuets, by then the tow guy that Progressive set up called to say he was 15 minuets away, so I cancelled the HOG tow, and thanked her.
Don't ask me about the dented fender and the blown fork seals!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOG roadside assistance is worthless. I broke down in Memphis a couple of years ago. Was on I-40, at mile marker 23 on the west bound side. I spent 3.5 hours on the phone with them, they couldn't find where I was. Told me there wasn't a mile marker 23 on I-40 in TN.
I finally got a State Trooper to talk to the bitch, and he told here the nearest cross street. That seemed to help her. Then she told me they would be there in 45 minutes. An Hour and half later they still hadn't showed up. Hell if they can't find you on a major interstate that runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, when given the mile marker information. God know what would happen if you break down on a back road somewhere.
By then I was able to get in touch with a buddy that lives in Memphis. He got there with a trailer, and we loaded up my bike.
I've never renewed my HOG membership after that nightmare. Or did I mention that it was in July? 99 degrees standing on the side of the interstate for a total of over 5 hours.
I have AAA Plus RV, Hog, AMA, ABATE for tow service. I only have used Hog 2 weeks ago since I was 25 mi from dealership. The tow service was surprisingly excellent and fast. From the time of break down to dealership took 1 hour 45 mins. A flat bed with a motorcycle rolling chock was dispatched.
They were even able to locate me using GPS location from my smart phone. HOG gives you one tow a yr and it's a limited distance of less than 30 miles I believe. On basic membership. They do give you the option to increase tow distance and amount of tows at the time of break down. I declined since I have a few complimentary tows available in those other organizations I belong to. Then there's AAA Plus.
If you could only have one road side assistance, I would still go with AAA since they're wide spread.
I have used AMA roadside and let me tell you it has been great. Especially because it was a buddys bike. They only offer 1 tow a year but covers anyone your with.
