Default CB Radio

I know, I am a dummy but I have never used my CB radio. My question is this; How do you use the darn thing. Going on a ride next weekend through Death Valley over to Beatty, NV with about 20 riders. Many use the CB but I have never used it. The manual is confusing so maybe some quick instructions from one of you pros who uses the CB.

10-4 good buddy...

First turn it on......Push the COM button and then the button next to it will toggle it on or off as the display will show. Ohh also make sure you have your headset plugged in and your speaker switch set to the correct position.

Next select the channel to be used (You can select 3 channels as "quick" channels by tuning to the channel desired and then pressing and holding on of the 3 right hand side of the display buttons for about 3 seconds to memorize that channel)

Once you have done the above you can then hit the COM button again to return to your radio/cd/aux display...

Also Adjust the squelch (the same toggle button on the left grip as the PTT (push to talk)) Push forward to Tighten and pull it back to loosen....You will want to adjust the squelch low enough to hear the static and then adjust it a bit "tighter" to block the static that way you can listen to your music etc and then when your buddies try talking to you they will "break through" and you will hear them instead of your music and when they stop talking you will hear your music again....

The rest your buddies can help you with while out on the ride :-) Enjoy

Bike is six years old, and I still couldn't tell you how to use the CB. My buddy just got an UC, so maybe we'll try it out.

That's my situation - nobody I ride with has a CB. I don't know if mine works.

When traveling alone, what channel should be monitored to pick up other bikes or other traffic? If bikes are traveling in a group, do they normally use a set channel (ie one a lone rider can switch to to pick them up) to do they usually just eenie meenie among all forty?

It seems truckers monitor Channel 19 so I guess you would probably set that as one of your three presets. What do most riders set for the other two?

As stated above and I'll add that you'll need to adjust the receiving volume for the CB while (a) the squelch is "open" (b) you are receiving a broadcast on that channel, or (c) when you are in the CB setup mode.

Simply turning up the am/fm radio volume does not affect the cb volume (or at least that's the way the older radios worked).

Last but not least, if you're using a headset to hear the cb transmissions, make sure the little ear speakers are positioned correctly in your helmet...those little speakers are not very powerful and if they are not in line with the ear canal, even full volume may not be enough.

Channel 1 is pretty common for bike to bike communications.

Good video!

You get several guys, and their ladies, commenting on different things as you motor down the highway, and it can get pretty entertaining at times. They can be a lot of fun when riding in a group.
