Default Engine failure??????

Let me start by telling you all what I have. 2006 street glide 39k miles. I was riding down the hwy at 70 mph then the motor quits for a second then pops then starts running again. Then it quits again then pops starts running again. I pull off the hwy then I hear internal engine noise like small pieces of metal being knocked around. I check the oil and it is almost a quart low but not quite a full quart. I look at the oil and there are no shiny metallic particles in the oil. I add some oil and start the bike and can still here the metallic noise being bounced about. The motor will run and sound fine but dies. Any ideas???
Thanks, Mike

Have you owned the bike the entire time? Have the cam tensioners ever been looked at?

I have owned it the entire time. The cam tensioners have not been looked at. But I was thinking the same thing. It they are toast did it ruin the motor? It starts and will idle then die out of no where. I had it towed home so I would not do further damage.

I just had the cam tensioners replaced on my ol ladies 2001 Fatboy. It has 50K on it and they had two thirds of the shoes still remaining. So I thought at 39k I would b fine on the street glide.

If the tensioners are in pieces ..At the very least I would think you toasted the oil pump..check out the entire cam chest.

If the oil pump is toasted does that mean the cases have to come apart??? I think your probably right though about the tensioners being I pieces. If that is the case why would it toast the oil pump?
