Default Tires, Is this normal?

2010 SG - Dunlop 407 / 408F, 1 up all the time. Just got back from a super weekend in Wild & Wonderful. Odometer hit 19,200 pulling into the driveway at home.

I like the twisties and probably about 1/6th to 1/5th of my riding is running through them. At about 17K I started getting some whine from the tires and they didn't seem to have as much grip.

This weekend they gave up the ship. As always, checked the tread and pressure before heading out.

On the way home the front started pushing and the rear end wanted to step out. Checked the fronts and they were down to the wear bars. The rears weren't quite to the wear bars but the outer lugs were cupped and the rubber was coming apart (cracking/tearing) where the lugs join the carcass.

I'm not whing just curious if:

1. This mileage seems about right for the new tire compounds
2. Anyone else noticed the how fast the tires go away at the end.
(Sure they have at least another 1000 in them to "Oh ****" about 250 miles later)

2. Most tyres in my experience go away fast over the last part of their life. I would have replaced them long before they got to the condition yours are in! There are far more important things in life than the last few miles on a set of bike tyres.

Pulled mine off at 15K, there was a little more life left but the bike was in for service and starting to handle badly. Then again, the cupping that I thought I was feeling turned out to be bad wheel bearings.

19k is good. A lot of people get a lot less. Time to buy new tires.

I have had to change out tires between 12 and 15,000. 19,000 is really good for tires.

I recently replaced the rear 407 on my RK. Had 17K on it. It wasn't to the wear bars yet. Could have gotten another 1K or so out of it. 90 percent of my riding is in the twisties. I run my air pressure at 40 PSI front and rear. 19K is good!!!!

I only got 10,000 out of my OEM rear and stealer said that was good... not in my book. Front at 14,000 going strong. The only thing between you and the road is that little patch of rubber... no room for compromise.

I consider anything over 15K a bonus for normal wear on M/C tires. You did good.
