Powdercoated about every darn piece of chrome on mine. Remember, there's ALL kinds of finishes too. I had a set of old 9 spoke wagon wheels done in wrinkle and usually it's the 1st part people comment on and total between wheels and coating was under $250.00. I used a total of 4 different finishes on mine and really rounded it out. Gloss, satin, wrinkle and a texture. It's WAY cheaper than chrome and WAYYYYYY easier to keep clean. More time for riding! :-)

Question here.....do the powdercoaters acid dip the parts or just scuff them up really well? What wears better?

you should never ever bead blast, the beads chip and imbed and will affect the finish of the coating... on most parts (some metals require steel grit like black sand.. but on most we will chemicals trip the part so that we can use a less agressive media (typically alum oxide) to allow fo a much smoooother finish
to give you an example...
last night i was wroking on my own throttle body on my Jeep, ill kind of walk you though the process for the powder on it (sorry the pics suck they where with my cell to show my buddies as i was going through it... Tim in our shop actually ported and polished it for me then i coated it... nice kick in response on the truck)

first removed the part (no paint on this so no need for the chemical tank)

after porting and polishing, part was masked and blasted

also the intake hung in the booth

then i was coated and re assembled

and installed

i hope that helps you guys out with an idea on the basic process
