Police Road King vs Standard Road King, what are the differences?
Just bought a 2002 Police Road King. What are the main differences between these models? Mine has been customized and the only difference visually are the hand controls and police bags. What are other differences. The guy said he had a 103 kit installed but I thought police models had that standard. Please help me understand all the differences and mechanical challenges that may be involved. Thanks for your help.

think about getting the factory manual and you will want wiring diagram, you may need to get the police supplement
from the previous owner, get all paperwork you can- esp if motor work has been done.
ex-cop bikes usually go through alot of mods when they are civilian-ized
there are substantial electrical differences, sub harnesses added for the cop lights, radio, siren etc
you know about the switches
clutch is probably beefed up, alternator may be higher capacity, maybe run flat tires--- which are great for a puncture and high mileage but the hard rubber compound makes them tricky in the wet
---- cop bikes in the past...30's to 90's often had higher performance motors for pursuit OR low compression motors for parade and sidecar use.
my 88 FXRP has the chp motor- with a 15% overdrive rear pulley the bike is capable of over 135
In the twincam era- no "special sauce" cop motors were built beyond obvious displacement changes
