Metal clank? I thought something was wrong with my bike...I heard a metal clanking at idle....I parked the bike with it running and it ended up being the front bag mount where the strap that goes over the seat also bolts to. It backed out and was making a metal clanking noise. I've noticed that the motor on my new SG is louder then my 96" Deluxe, but I think that is common with HDs....and the fact that the exhaust is stock and sound reflects off of the fairing....or I'm being paranoid.
These new motors do seem noisier..I rented a couple of 2012 bikes out in Vegas (SG and an Ultra) and the SG especially sounded louder and clunkier than the Ultra at low speeds. That being said when downshifting my RK a week or so ago I heard a distinctive metallic clank that I had not heard before...took the bike out later in the day and did not hear anything. I've got the 5 year warranty so if anything grenades in that time frame.....
This sounds similar to an issue cptdenny had with his CVO......he ended up being ok in that deal other than it took some time to resolve. Keep us posted!
I'm in southeast PA and I wonder if it's the same dealer where my bike is? Took it in Monday because it kept blowing turn signal/brake light fuses. They had it for 2 days and said that they couldn't get it to blow. I went in yesterday to pick it up and as soon as I put the turn signal on to leave the parking lot... it blew the fuse!
Bike is still there, but my confidence in their mechanic's troubleshooting ability has been severely damaged...
As for OP asking for a new bike, I seriously doubt that that's gonna happen. They have be given the chance to fix it first.
As stated in previous replies...it can be frustrating having issues with anything that is purchased brand new, but that's why warranties are in place. IMO, I would just allow for some time. If in fact the "clanking" is a major issue, it won't take long for whatever it is to break loose. Just stay close to home
so, had a lengthy conversation with the district service guy and the bottom line is that the bike is not generating any engine error codes, nothing is leaking, and the bike does run. They heard the clank and said that it's normal, they couldn't explain what it was, possibly "bad gas" and that I'm not operating the bike within the limits that it was designed for. I demonstrated at start from a dead stop, and the guy said that I was "hotdogging it." Pretty much everything I said, he turned back around on me. That's how the conversation went for about 45 minutes. Round and round and the result was....
Ride the bike till it breaks and then it's under warranty (for 2 years).
Lesson learned, test drive the crap out a bike before you sign the dotted line!
The MFG. has a warranty. The warranty guidelines must be followed.
Now if there is a lemon law, those guidelines must be met.
Here in Az the Lemon Law states it must be in the shop three times for the same problem. Sadly, this would count as number one. This whole situation sickens me on your behalf....damn that sucks!

They don't allow test drives here in Arizona so that caution would not serve me. I've never been able to test drive a bike before buying it. I need to do a thread on what states allow test drives before you buy, some would find that information useful.
Does it only "clank" on starts from a stop? Mine would do that if I didn't give it enough throttle or if I let the clutch lever out too fast. Of course, I had the old compensator when it was happening. Also, mine would "clank" 2 or 3 times before I could pull the clutch lever in and give it more throttle and try again. I agree with fireaxxe about possible compensator problems.
For the popping, I'd try adding some seafoam to your tank in case you have bad gas.
