OP i have two scenarios for ya. Guy i know had a new oil pump installed under warranty. Left dealership and was hearing a strange noise. Returned 10 mins later and they said it was normal. Guy leaves knowing all was not well but what to do? Right? Oil pressure starts jumping around erratically dealer still insists they cant replicate the problem(sound familiar). After 345 miles oil pump craps out and they blame him and refuse service. We have a pretty close nit riding community so he returned the following Saturday during the busiest time of day with about 30 of his friends. No threats were made. He plainly asked the mgr how much money did he stand to loose from those 30 guys? His bike got fixed! Didnt even pay the deductable. I hope you have a lot of riding buddies! I'd want a new one too!
Scenario 2.......Pull clutch, hold throttle wide open till it blows! Call dealer for pick-up.

I did not test ride it.13000 miles later, the bike runs great.

When I bought my'06 from San Jose HD,no test ride allowed.

I would call the MoCo and start a complaint. They will investigate the situation. From talking to a few buddies that work at a dealership that is the one thing the dealership does not want. They said many issues have been resolved quickly starting a complaint with main headquarters. Harley has a grading system they use for their dealers. These complaints and issues effect that grade.

As I reported back, the HD rep said that the engine is normal and that the "metallic clank" and exhaust popping are normal with the 103 engines. There are no engine codes generated, nothing is leaking, and the bike runs.

the dealership knows that i'm not happy and they are willing to make peace by offering an extend warranty on the bike for free.

I'm going to take the warranty and the write up from the HD rep, and just ride the bike. Not much else I can do. I appreciate everyone's advice and guidance.

Honestly...this is when a dealer must work hard to gain your trust and make the situation right.

I had a very similar situ- my tranny disintegrated 40 miles from the dealer...5 days before Christmas! Iknew they couldn't just fork over a new bike, but had to repair mine as is. They ripped into the tranny within 1 hour of my return, and had a new one "overnighted" from Harley that Monday. By Wednesday...I had my Christmas present back in my garage.

I was as patient as I could have been...but came away feeling very greatful that I gave them the opportunity to make it right. I am a loyal customer to this day.

If I were you I would try another dealer. Tell the service manager what happened and if they want your buisness they will fix it. I bought a New 103 Street Glide in June and had leaking air shocks from the get go but the dealer fixed it right away. As for the clunking sound- Thats the first thing I noticed in mine that my old fatboy didnt have. Drain that crappy HD trans fluid and put Belray in it. No more CLUNKING for me. While you have the dealership scratching their heads, tell them to put you a high flow breather, head pipe minus the Cat, some slip-ons , a race tuner and a cam at A HIGHLY DISCOUNTED PRICE. Its worth a shot. Good luck !!!!!!
