After a 15 year hiatus I am back on a bike. I bought an 08 Ultra late this summer and was hoping to lower it a bit. Can I simply put a set of street glide shocks in place of my stock ones or am I asking for trouble? I picked up a set on here (54662-o2a) my stock shock is a 54565-97c thanks
Great thanks for the quick response. Got a good deal and these will get me me the answers about reach and looks until spring when I can afford to go for something more substantial
the 09+ SG shocks are "revalved for a smoother ride" -that's what i have on my EG Classic.
The ride is reasonable with about 7 pounds the magic number
When I tour the stock shocks go back on as does the ultra seat--- with the extra weight I carry, camping gear and stuff, I want a smooth cadillac ride for those long days.
The SG shocks are completely fine for in town and day rides
I have them on in my sig pic but took them off. Opted for the better ride from the stock ones on my 2010 EGC. When going solo they looked better but the newer ones ride much better.

Since you've allready bought these shocks might as well use them. I had a 09 FLHX and stiff ride.. Got a 2010 Limited and put SG shocks to lower bike, Ride wasn't worth it. Put stock ones back on.. Need to check what air pressure to use.. 09's and up have more pressure. 08 and below is max I believe 25psi.. Need to check out... Good Luck..
I've got SG shocks on my Ultra, ride well even loaded. It's not really smooth and got now many kilometers on it, that's why i want to upgrade to Olhins or EMC i think but still in 12"
i have an 08 streetglide that i bought new and it rode like hell. i'd cringe everytime i saw a pothole or bump with the stock short shocks. i then got a pair of 09 roadglide shocks and installed them. that extra inch of suspension travel makes a huge difference in ride. i no longer fear those dreaded potholes like i did when i had the stock short streetglide shocks on it.
