Does anyone know the physical differences between 52593-09A ride backrest mounting kit for 97-08 models, and 52596-09A for the '08 and later? Could I jerry rig the old one to work on a 2010?
I had my old back rest from my 05 EGC on my new 2010 EGC with one small mod. A 1X1X2 inch long piece of angle iron. You have to drill three holes in it and wala, it fits. Yea, the dealer told me, oh know it want fit because he didn't know. No mods to the back rest at all, just make the small adapter and its done. Hope this helps.
I did like glide did with my older rider backrest.
I had the non adjustable backrest on my 2006 FLHT.
Wanting to keep it for my new 2009 Ultra , I went to mount it and found a frame style difference.
The 06 frame just behind the battery had a vertical lip which the late model bikes don't have.
This lip is for the front bracket mount for the backrest.
I used a similar piece of steel as glide2005 , to give me the vertical section needed for the older style rest.
Harley offers the adapter bracket , I think it was $29.00 at the time . to do just this mod.
The angle steel just attaches to the frame and gives the same old vertical plane for the old front mount to attach to and you're all set.
Of course the DIY version is much cheaper .......
