Hello Im looking into buying a riders backrest for my ride the ? I have is can anyone tell me what year they changed the design of the pad itself? and why? also the newer pads are thinner not as thick as the older versions if you look at an older hd accessories catalog like 2007 to a current hd acc catalog 2012 they look the same but they turned them upside down so that the wide part of the pad is in the lower part of your back verses the wider part being in the upper part of ur back on the older versions I ask cuz is there a difference in the comfort level? I would like to make sure before I purchase anything thanks for any suggestions and or answers to my questions
I have a 52900-09A for my '12. It's uber comfortable. Don't use it all the time but it keeps my from slouching on long days. This is adjusted all the way forward, I'm a short little bastage.
They changed them in 2009.
I'm talking about the Adjustable Bacrkrest here: I've had both and the new design is better.
What makes it better? The way they turned it right side up from the older version or the padding or what? because I would think the older version with thicker padding would be more comfratable than the thinner new version?
I bought this one new from Harley in September, it is the adjustable type. I highly recommend it, very comfortable and reduced fatigue. I have pictures of the install if anyone needs them.
I have the HD Adj & works great. You can get the Circulation pad to add to you backrest. I don't use it but do have one for the seat & it's really good. I can't help with the different yeras. Good luck.
I have had three of them now. Had both an adjustable and a non-adjustable on my RKC and now have a non on my SG. I sold the adjustable as it pushed me too far forward. (I'm 6'0 and long armed) When getting ready for an Iron Butt Bun Burner ride, I put the non-adjustable one on. I had to dink with it to get it tilted back far enough but finally shimmed it right and loved it. I never took it off the bike.
Now with the SG, it is still pushing me too far forward. I have moved it back and have used washers to tip it back as far as I can. It is better but still not there. Last week I pulled it off the bike until I can do some more work on it. Part of the problem might be the CVO seat so am looking at trying some other seats as well.
They are great when they fit but when they don't, they suck.
