Default Sundowner seat- grab strap

Just put my new Sundowner on. Old grab strap is too tight, new one doesn't have any hardware included, to allow me to knock the rivet off the right side of the old one. But then I start looking at some pictures here and it seems like not evryone leaves their's on. I kinda feel that just the screw on the back is not enough to hold the seat on. Any thoughts on that?

Also, anyone else run in to having to knock the rivet out? Words of advice on this step plus thoughts on mounting hardware would be appreciated. Thanks.

I put on the deep bucket Sundowner and my grab strap is way to long. Just unscrew one side and the othe side take off the strap mounting plate.

I just leave the existing grab strap attached and tuck it under the Sundowner seat. The new grab strap is attached to the two flanged nuts on the front of the rear fender under the seat. Then when switching back to the stock seat the existing grab strap is ready to go.

When I was running the two up Sundowner I installed the new grab strap but after a few times removing and putting the seat back on I decided to go ahead and eliminate the strap altogether.

Default Drill It!

Drill the rivet out from the backside. Use the nut and bolt from the old strap and the nut and bolt from the new strap to attach it to your bike. Just cut the new strap to length and use a leather punch to get a new hole started. The grab strap is basically an ornimental item anyhow.

Instructions that came with my Sundowner said the grab strap was also to add security to the seat to keep it from coming off. It fit the same hardware as the stock seat for securing it to the bike. It is a little looser but that makes it easier for my grandson to grab when riding on the back.

That seat won't go anywhere even without the strap, leave it off!

The strap that came with my Sundowner is in the box with the stock seat. I could have used that strap as a belt, it was that long.

Here's the deal,
The old strap will work perfectly. I encountered the same thing on my "11RKC and here is what you do - notice the metal eyelets that the strap goes into on each side; you will notice they also have the hole on each one for the "bail head" fastener to mount the saddlebags. Loosen the mounting bolts and turn these brackets in the manner to allow the shorter original strap to work. Note: it will not take much, too much and your bags won't line up. When right, tighten the hardware and you are good to go. I highly recommend to always use the strap. The strap will be just a little snug, just like you will want it. The strap slot in the hardware will have a very small slant to it - no problem. Now go ride!
