The "keep 'em on stupid" posters are right-on. Your bike will look a whole lot better without crash bars. I'm on my second set of crash bars on the FLHR, the first set were bent like delta wings. I was sandwiched between two mini-trucks by a guy downtown hoping to slip into a parking space when he ran into me, $6K damage to the bike, just a bit of rash and a big bruise to me. While not shiny chrome or powder-coated, my first set of legs still work and look ok. When I can pick up a new pair of them like my crash bars, I'll remove my crash bars again. Until then, I'll keep my legs protected, thanks!

There is a RK Custom here at work without the crashbar, footboards replaced with forward controls, and the saddlebags removed. I like it so much that I'm looking for a really good deal on an old RK to do the same thing.

It doesn't surprise me that folks have different opinions of styles in bikes, it does surprise me that some folks can be so unfriendly in giving those opinons. Its kind of funny, in most threads where someone ask an opinion of style, the answer is typicallly something like "to each his own", except with a crashbar.

Its fair to say that the vast majority of motorcycles don't have crash bars, but after reading this thread, one would come away thinking the crashbar is required for an engine to run or to hold their manhood.

To each his own.

Which translates into, "do whatever you want as long as it's what I like", similiar to the answer to "What is the best <insert item here>?", to which the reply is normally, "Um, the one I have on my bike, of course".

To each their own for sure!

I'll keep mine on for the use of the lower fairings, highway pegs, and.........

I know that if my scoot decides to fall, they will take the brunt of the damage not the saddlebags and fairing.

Ride Safe!
