I stoped in the day after I heard and they told me unless I'm having problems with my current one to wait a few weeks so they can swap out the ones on their sales floor.....your dealer is misinformed or flat out lying....they shoulda replaced yours before selling it to you...what's going on with ethics in businesses these days, it fuels my already weary cynicism. Makes everything they tell me BS.
This is just a guess, but I figure they waited until it was sold so they could then charge the moco for warranty labor. At least make a little money off the deal. I don't think they can charge for warranty work on a bike that hasn't been sold yet. I could be wrong.
i'm not 'apologizing' for hd, but i fail to understand these folks that know about the recall, took there bike in and had the recall performed, and are now bitching that they weren't notified
I haven't had mine changed yet because the old one still works but I would have appreciated receiving a notification from the MoCo instead of finding out here.
Not having a brake light can be extremely dangerous and should be treated seriously. Here in PA, you will fail the yearly vehicle inspection if your brake light doesn't operate properly.
I receive recall notices for my Acura and for my SO's Mazda so why not for my Harley? We pay a Premium for our bikes and HD's Customer Service is sub-par, at best. That's what I'm bitching about.
wasn't pointing specifically at you.... there are a lot of others that have had the recall done already and are complaining that they weren't notified....
Another classic case of making assumptions based upon intrepretation.. No big deal meant that it was dealt with as a maintenance item of which it was when I went to see my dealer. Me appoligizing for HD ,or showing a lack of concern for others is complete BS. I don't see that was the case, however I think that you should consider appoligizing to me for your outlandish comments about me, since you really don't know me and you are acting like someone who forgot to take their medication.. Chunker
The jab wasn't to you, the jab was to HD for failing to notify owners of a safety recall. Sorry you took it wrong, so next time read my comments carefully before getting hot.
Found out about it on here...took my bike in, and got it fixed. Too easy. If they perofrm it the way they are directed to by the MOCO, your brakes will be bled, and you won't have a mushy feeling brake pedal. The guys who are finding the pedal mushy are guys who are having this done by a dealer where they are trying to cut corners.
So...insist that they bleed the system using the special harley tool. Then ride it in the parking lot, as I did and ensure the rear brake pedal isn't mushy before leaving.
Some of you guys really need to get a grip! You're whining because you haven't got your recall notice yet? Waaaa. Fer *** sakes grow up. 300,000 notices are going out and you're crying because you're not first. And no, the dealer isn't lying - not all 2012 are affected. And no, it's not a big deal - it's a fuking brake switch - your bike won't blow up.
..And no, it's not a big deal - it's a fuking brake switch - your bike won't blow up.
Disregard of the recall, or replace the switch! I lost the rear brake completely, while riding on freeway, due to the heat had broken the seal of the switch, and all the brake fluid was gone. Not a bad luck day for my yet, until I almost got hit by a kid who ran the stop sign, and I had no rear brake. The front brake had safe my life, but I had to swirl to the other side of the road.
That's what I call "big deal"! My dealer even offers to tow my bike to the dealer to replace the switch, but that's another story.
Anyway, it depends on how you look at!
Just saying
My selling dealer called me the day that I was actually going to call them about it. I'm almost due service and asked about waiting. Service manager just informed me what the issues were behind the recall and advised that I keep an I on the rear brakes. He also informed me that they were only sent so many at first and they were installing them as fast as they got the parts. He said in a few weeks time they should have the part in stock for more than 10-15 bikes.
