....that's what's throwing me off too. One time I look at it and it looks like a repair- but its Only on the right. All other sides are shiny factory paint.
Then when I look again, I think ok. Bad/ ugly factory weld? Did the paint get worn away by the cables and that is krylon I'm seeing- because someone attempted to re-cover with spray paint ??
So...you guys unamiously agree that No factory weld would Ever look that way?
i agree with the rest, kind of looks like a patch job to me, is that insulated wire by the weld burnt or melted?? seems odd how the rest of it looks good except by the weld or is it just the light from your camera.
Thats not a Factory weld. Factory welds start from a "pool". Those are repair welds. If you could take a steel brush and get rid of the rust, you would be able to tell alittle bit better. Factory welds aren't always the best looking, but they dont look like that. JMHO

Thats def not factory weld. The burned insulation and run-away grinder marks gives it away. That weld looks like somethin I did......When I was 12!
That is definitely not a factory weld. I Welded 15 years Newport News Ship. Looks like a downhill mig/flux core repair, skinny bead and puddle at the bottom. The sheath is burned on the harness in pic #5. The paint is bubbled from the heat.
Agree with the wire brush above. Paint will probably come off real easy in the heat affect zone getting tougher as you get farther away. (at least 1" on each side).
I would at least get the area of lack of fusion in pic 1-3 re welded and prime with a good primer or etch and paint. Should be able to get it tig welded without dissasembly.
Keep in mind car faxes and any other accident report will only show up if the accident was reported.
Remember if you do have it re welded insist that they disconnect the battery , both posts, the starter is still hot when you disconnect the ground only.
Thanks everybody for the input!
I looked in to it further and indirectly got a straight answer. But the short story is that its not an actual repair. It's just superficial. I'm going to smooth down the ridges, prep & coat it with paint and if it looks pretty good, ill leave it alone. Otherwise, neck covers are in my future.
- would anyone happen to know if the Kury or Ness covers fit my 06? I had concern cause I read that they didn't fit on some peoples bikes. I have that throttle switch on the throttle cable in that area so I didnt know if that would be a problem
