Just installed a new skull Adjure headlight on my 02 Road King and went out for a test ride and my bike started acting funny and shut off a couple times and wanted to backfire some and had some white smoke coming out of the pipes. I also installed adjustable pushrods in it. They seemed to be fine. Could this headlight be too hot and running my battery down? Please help.
No, but it was sure white in color. Had some loud knocking in the rear cylinder as well.
I was just bustin with the "retro crap" - sorry bout that. I'm not familiar with the push rod setup with bikes (in as much as cars), but if not the correct length they could have possibly caused valve/piston interference? (loud banging from rear cylinder) You'll probably want to get a MUCH more informed opinion than mine before going into panic mode.
Push rod clearances are pretty important. Was there a "Pre-Existing Condition" that led you to go in the direction of this swap? What settings did you go with and how did you arrive at them? Stock motor? Any other pertinant info to share?
103 kit installed by previous owner with SE 204 cams. Purchased the bike and had a rear rocker box leaking. The rocker boxes were looking bad so I bought new boxes and put all new lower and upper gaskets on and new S&S adjustable pushrods and tubes. Also, installed and fixed new trip reset switch and LED light assembly in console along with new Adjure skull headlight because the previous light burnt up my headlight connecter so I replaced the connecter and spades. I also installed new SE plugs and 10mm wires and a new braided crossover fuel line. That is all I have done. My Neutral switch was fine but I replaced the LED still didn't fix my problem. Until I went out for this test ride and all of a sudden it started working. My ignition when I turn it on now will turn the EFI in but I have no odometer or engine light coming on. I turn it off and try it again and it works. It's like I have pinched wires somewhere. The motor was out of the frame for the 103 so maybe some wires got pinched on the reassembly. Hope this gives some more clues to my problem.
