Default Sony radio problem

In July I put a Biketronics radio kit in my FLHT and it came with the basic Sony CDX-GT550UI radio. It has worked fine since then, including 2 weeks ago when I last rode the bike. Today I put a battery tender on the bike which of course meant I had to disconnect and reconnect the battery. Now the radio will not turn on at all when the engine is running, but if the engine is off and the ignition is on, the radio will turn on for 1 second, but then turn right back off. I can get the radio to stay on if I hold the power button down but will turn off when I let go. I tried removing and reinstalling the face plate with no change.

Anyone have any suggestions? I sent an email to Biketronics but won't be able to talk to them till Monday because they are not open again until then.

I had a problem with my biketronics kit. Mine was a little different in that the hand controls didn't work right away. The troubleshooting section on the instructions said to disconnect the negative side of the battery and wait 5 minutes before re connecting. It worked like a charm. Maybe try that and see it it helps.

Thanks guys, problem is now solved! It must have been the ground as I had the battery tender terminals mounted between the cables and the battery. I moved them out to between the cable and bolt (where they should have been put in the first place, I don't know what I was thinking) and now the radio works perfectly. I was hoping it would be something simple and it seems it was.

The forums came through again!

You do not need to disconnect the battery to use the tender.

Yes that is true, but you have to disconnect the battery to initially install the wires that will connect to the tender. That is what I did and I installed the wires on the wrong side of the battery cables. I did not have a tender on the bike previously.
