If the tab that the engine guard is bolted to the frame with has been broken then according to Harley and progressive the frame has to be replaced. They will not allow it to be welded back on. I just had a 09 RK get totaled because of this. It is amazing how fast the damage adds up.

I hope your healing goes as well as mine went. 4 weeks ago I could barely move and now I'm ready to find the next bike.

Fire1Tex......You story should always be in the backs of our minds every time we hit the back roads of any State.
I am glad to hear you are OK, bikes are replacements as we all know, just material things.
What I am most disappointed with is hearing that no warning sings were in place to warn of the changing road condition due to the re-work of the road surface. on top of that a DOT project.,
All things aside here, you need to contact a first rate attorney and pursue TXDOT....
I do believe you have a legitimate case against the stupidity of some district idiot who does not need to have a tax payer funded position with the TXDOT department.
Heal up and take care, if you go after them keep us informed of the outcome.

You called it exactly. Engine guard tore out the tab, foot pad, exhuast, and bag frame all mashed in...

Thanks for all the support guys, will definitely be checking in with counsel, not for monetary gain, but maybe to help prevent this kind of stuff from happening around here for a while...

I live in Hutto now but lived in Temple for years, still have friends in Killeen we travel 195 normally and FT Hood soldiers are restricted from traveling 195 at night because of wreaks. I know the area well. I'll avoid 487 for a spell.

Where I live, usually the color of the road repair material stands out from the road surface so you get a little warning, but like you, a couple of years ago I hit some new type material on top of the repair that did not give you a visual warning ( No sign either...) and I came as close to dumping it as you can without going down. Went home, changed my shorts and had a FEW beers...Hope your bike and you both get properly repaired!

First, glad you are okay! I have an 05 Ultra and was hit from behind 2 years ago while almost stopped on the highway. I was hit hard enough to be slammed into the vehicle in front of me. I don't recall "frame" damage but did have the entire front end replaced including downtubes, neck assembly, wheel. In total over 9K in damage. Had my dealer to all the work and they did a fantastic job. You would never know the bike was in a serious accident.

Wow. I just got into an accident about three months ago and had about 7500 in damage on my 08 king.. Lucky there was no frame damage. Glad you made it and good luck with your bike. Nice paint.
