Default can't start with clutch pulled in

With my lever covers on I can't pull the clutch in far enough to disengage the safety to let it start. The lever needs to be flat on the bar. Someone has had to have this issue, it will get worse when I put grip covers on. Are their other levers that are formed different? or is the mechanism inside something to be remade, trimmed or altered? I know how my Valkyrie was made and I dealt with it. I'm hoping to not have to experiment on a 5 day old bike.
thanks

Being able to start in gear is a must for safety concerns not that I do it all the time but if I were to stall at an intersection, or a quick get away needed I would definitely want the bike to fire like it should be doing. What I did is I looked at where the clutch lever hit the clutch safety switch in the control housing on the perch. Mine did not have enough throw to activate the switch either. So I got a very small button head sheet metal screw that was only abut a 1/4" long and 1/8" diameter. I drilled a hole in the clutch lever installed the screw with a little locktite and it works like a champ. I would recommend this fix for sure as your bike needs to fire whenever you tell her to.

and we have a winner, now that wasn't that hard to want something to work like it should?

exactly, stall at a light/intersection and can't find neutral in a split second, the 3 seconds could have been fatal, especially when you didn't know it wouldn't start.

thanks for the tip, I was figuring something needed built up. I will probably tap a hole and put a 2-56 or 4-40 bolt in it, I got plenty of hobby building stock. I didn't find the part in my parts book yet.

thank you

No the switch in in the perch on the control housing just look in there you will sees little black rubber booted 3/16' button. Place the screw in the crotch of the lever itself good luck you should be happy with the results.

Uh, 2012 + problem = take it to dealer for repair under warranty. And it won't cost you a thing.
