Default RK handlebars, yes another thread....

After putting up with the OE handlebars on my 2011 RK Standard for a couple of months, I pulled the trigger on a set of lightly used Carlini Bag Drags off a member on this forum.
I was fortunate my buddy basically did the whole install for me (getting the wires through the bars and back into their plugs correctly was a b*tch). We did not have to lengthen any wires or cables. That was what sold me on the bars to begin with.
Now that I have had a chance to check the Carlini's out I am not exactly thrilled with them. Now instead of leaning forward (OE bars), I feel like I am leaning back. This in turn makes my butt want to scoot forward and I am finding myself adjusting a lot. They also put me back far enough to where I am encroaching on the wife's space.
I guess I am going to have to pop for a different set and start over. I still don't want to extend wires or cables. I have yet to see any threads on the forum where somebody was able to put any kind of apes on without extending something. Wild One's tech said you have to extend wires only on their 10" apes. I guess I will have to check out the WO Road King and Road King II bars.

Why don't you want to extend the wires? Are you nervous about keeping all the extensions in an orderly fashion so you can get them all hooked back up? If so, you might want to look at LA Choppers. They offer wire extension kits that use the same colored wires as the original equipment wires which makes reconnection a snap.

This is some good information for someone doing the project as I did... see the link in my last post, above...

There are 8 wires per side. Each being a different color. Even if you bought, for the variety of colors, 8 rolls of wire at about 6 bucks each from PEP Boys or The Home Depot, then placed a marker, such as White Out, as I did, you are still spending about 50 bucks on wire.

If one could get the kits for less than $50 you could consider yourself ahead.

I happen to have enough wire laying around to do the project. But, if you don't....

Just saying.
