OK, so this discussion makes me want to buy the 440's for my '07 Road King Classic, but I don't know what length to purchase. Matt, I think the standard length that comes with the Custom would be what I want - as I understand it, that bike sits an inch lower than the Classic. So what length would I purchase to mimic the height of the Custom?
Pastor John,
The touring bikes come with 13" shocks in the rear with the exception of the RK Custom and SG, both of those come with 12" low profile shocks. So if you want the shorter look of the SG or RK Custom you would buy the 12" progressive.
You can also try "Works Performance Steel Trackers with ARS & DRS". These shocks are made for two-up touring and are custom made. These shocks are far superior to Progressives 440's. But they are also more expensive! I have tried both (12' shocks) and the "Works Performance shocks" are night and day better than the 440's.

I am wondering if anyone installed a set of the 440's? I want to lower the bike but do not want an air system. I was looking for a set of 440's in the 11.5 legnth. Does anyone have this setup and is there any bottoming out?

I'll vouch for the quality of Works Shocks. They are well built, tuneable, and able to be rebuilt.
I may look into the works shocks as well, right now I would like a little better foot print as well as a lowered look. I have had alot of bikes ranging from slammed softtails to slammed dynas. I was really happy with the way my lowered dyna rode and if I can mimic that I will be happy.
Yea, it replaces the HD air shock. I'll tell you what though, the ride on both size of Progressives is better than the 12" low profile HD air shock. I didn't care for the 12" air shocks at all.
No, you dont have to raise the front forks. The fork springs height are the same in the SG and RK Custom as all the other touring bikes-only the rear is lowered. So if you added 13" shocks to the rear, in essence you would have the same suspension as the other RK's and tourers.
