Default Touring camshaft question

I understand since 2007 cam tensioner has changed and according to
several HD-Dealers that they really dont put in gear drives much at all in the late models since tensioner change while an independent shop told me to definatley put a gear drive in as the tensioner is still problematic. How many of ya'll put in gear drives while doing a cam upgrade and how many left the chain in.

Did it myself in my garage with no problems. Needed to tune right after. That was biggest challenge. I love my cam. Best upgrade I could have done.

I think I'll roll with my Andrews 54's OEM chain drive. Im sure they'll last a long time.I just checked the poll...and WOW, very interesting results..So far 100% stayed with the stock set up.

With the increased crank runout specs, I would think most would no longer use gear drives.

The problem is the run out on the late models is usually to excessive for gear drives. Sounds like your guy is not up to date on things or is just kinda stuck on his way of doing things. The new hydraulic tensioners are much more forgiving on crank run out and considerably cheaper too. I wouldn't even consider gear drives anymore myself but thats just me being stuck on what I believe is best too I guess.
