Default Starter/compensator

The starter on my 07 FLH is kicking back when I start the bike warm. It's not so bad when cold, but it is still there.
I remember a thread a while back that the starter kickback was due to a bad compensator. Can anyone refer me to that thread?

You cant swing a dead cat around here without hitting a compensator thread. I think its more common than oil threads (in the touring section anyway.)

What do you mean by open it up. Starter or compensator. Either can be bad without showing visible sighns. Sounds like a starter clutch. When mine goes out it shows itself at "gas station stops". Cold it will start fine but stop for gas and you get the dredded grind then bang it starts. If it is the starter clutch replace it with a MES or a all ***** one. Let us know how it goes.

I'll pull the primary cover and see if the compensator is possibly loose, then I'll check the teeth on the hub and starter. If I don't see anything wrong, then I'll pull the starter and compensator, I have to tear it down anyway. I'll look for damage in either one and go from there.

If you go thru the trouble to pull the compensator you might as well replace it with an S.E. compensator and be done with it. I did and don't regret not having that gremlin running around in the back of my head.

I'm going to open a can of worms here.
While I have this thing apart, I want to change the motor sprocket to make my sixth gear run in the 2800 to 3000 rpm range rather than the 2450 range it is running now at 70 mph. I read a topic somewhere that switching to a earlier year motor sprocket would accomplish this, though I would possibly lose the 6th gear light. Can anyone remember that motor sprocket year and tooth count?
