That kick back with the engine warm is due to a vapor and compression lock. I kinda understand all of that, but if I tried to explain I would get it totally wrong.
This is really a problem on Sporty's that have increased compression ratios. You can do a search on the Sporty forum, and find some good 411 on this.

I own a couple of sportsters, a stocker and one that has a 12.5:1 compression ratio and understand the nature of the motor. The problem, that has been cured, is not due to to that. It is due to crappy parts that should have overcome vapor and compression lock. The upgraded part does the job.

Got a new catalog friday , looked at the SE compensator for my bike.
It comes as stock equiptment.
Talked to a mechanic at the dealer and some of the new 103 come with the SE compensator and other parts.
Seems the spring behind the compensator on models without the SE compensator has been giving problems
Next year its gonna be standard equiptment on more bikes.
As a last comment on this subject, over the last 4 1/2 years of riding this bike, it looks like vibration inched it's way into the bike, not really noticable, until I changed the compensator due to starting problems and noise in the primary. Now it feels like it did when it was new. Wish I had done this long ago.
