Default Cam for 2012 103 engine

Here's my profile:
2 up touring and pull a trailer.
Except for passing I pretty much do all my work between 1000 and 3000 RPM.
Have VH 2 into 1, SE air, PCV

am really looking for better torque to get me off the line and up to 65-70 mph. Would be nice to not lose MPH when i do a steep climb, but maybe thats asking for to much, dont know.
thanks

The Andrews 26's might be perfect for you. Another one that has my attention that I have not used or ridden yet are the Tman 555 Torqster cams. He recommends them for trikes so Id imagine they'd work well for you with the trailer and the extra weight. HD is going to recommend the 255's but my personal experience with them was not that great but I think a lot of guys like those pretty well. You might also consider running a smaller pulley on the front. Your stock one has 32 teeth. If you drop to a 31 you can usually stay with the stock belt. A 30 tooth will make quite a bit of difference but you'll have to do a belt change also with it.

I had heat issues with the 255's. I had it on different dynos with different tuners 3 times and still couldnt seem to get rid of the problem. It was constantly engauging the EITMS if I stopped at a stop sign for more than 20 seconds or so on hot summer days even with good synthetic oil. I did not have an oil cooler. Also, it made good numbers for those cams but I had a dip in the TQ right where I did not want it running a thunderheader exhaust that the dyno guys I mentioned could not tune out. That is somewhat typical however with that exhaust but it was something that reared its ugly head, seat of the pants not just on a dyno graph. I think my situation was an exception to the rule though because most do not report this dip with these cams but, with the very early intake close the 255's offer, they will inherently run hotter than other cams because they build cold cranking pressures up. I know iclick will have to put in his $.03 in on this also and he's pretty sharp on this stuff but IMO there are better choices than the 255's.

I to am a fan of the Andrews cams, the 21H is good, 26H is better, but the new 48H should be the best for your needs. Most like more cam as it moves the power to the right (more RPM), Don't over cam as it will soften the lower end, which is where you want to ride. A good map and/or tune will keep the ping away also. Check out the new Boyesen power wing intake, helps to quiet the intake/exhaust overlap of the new cams. It is more noticable with lowers.

Default Consult with Tuner

Your best success will come from finding a tuner you trust; ask your tuner what he recommends; ask for examples of his work that is typical of what you have and what you are seeking; ask him for the pros and cons of 2 or three alternatives "around" what you are seeking (trade-offs in where torque peaks - remember, look for torque first and let HP fall where it falls).
Armed with that info, maybe come back to your thread here and ask again for more opinions on those specifics.
Worked for me.... just my and worth what you paid.... good luck and good hunting.

255s and PC5. Period. There are others but why try those that don't have the "stellar" history. I have it in 103 and love it, thanks

Depends...

If it's a roadglide, then SE254e, if it's a Streetglide then SE 255.
