Default What would you do

Because of my accident my bike was written off. If you were in this position would you buy new or buy used so you could afford to fix it up.

Just curious, my dilemma

There are many, many, many great used bikes out there for a great price. I have never bought any of my bikes new. So my vote is used no question about it. BUT do your homework!

New: you get a warranty and all the advantages of a new bike vs the old bike.. powerplant abs etc

Used: You stand a good chance of taking on someone else's problem child. Don't care what any dealer says about how they go thru the buys they sell.

If you are in the position to buy a new bike... do that! Then, a little bit at a time; mod your New bike the way you want too. As funds come available, you do the wrenching ! Saves you $$ and you will gain a appreciation for your bike that no amount of $$$ could ever replace.

After I bought my '07 SG, the first things I bought was a service manual and a good set of tools... the rest is history. If I can turn a wrench... anyone can !!

Good luck and happy riding !

used for me , not really sold on the newer bikes with the cats and heat issues but think used is a better bargain , just shop around , let someone else pay for your mods

If you work on your own bike & can do your own service & mods I'd go used. If you take it to the dealer for everything then new & a warranty is probably the way to go. From where you live you have quite a bit of time to do your shopping, & the prices should drop this time of year since the riding season is done for quite a while.

If you buy used, it doesn't help the economy ie GDP, or the people up in York manufacturing them, so buy new, keeps people working, helps maintain jobs, and the GDP.

Financially, I think "used" is a better way to go. One thing about a used bike is that it's worth as much tomorrow as it is today. If you buy "new" and then decide you're not in love with it, or have buyers remorse or financial problems, then you'll eat several thousand dollars when you have to sell. If buying "used" the other guy eats it.
