Any new information on using some light weight syenthic gear lube in my transmission in place of the 20w50 Amsoil. This weekend we did a run to Daytona, on Interstae @ about 70mph,it sounds like a barrell of monkeys with ball peen hammers trying to hammer their way out. Just a huge rattling and clanging in 6 gear. I know some that some is normal as was 5th gear lound on my 08. Now the 11 Ultra limited sounds pretty loud. Ought I turn the radio up and keep going with my Amsoil or look into some of the 70 w 90 lubes for my 6 speed
Thanks
Mark
Bro do a search on the subject then get comfortable reading all the threads on it....there are a plethera of threads on the use of gear lube in the tranny.....
I'm trying Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum 6-speed Transmission Oil 75w/140 this time around. I figure if Baker recommends it and ships it with all their transmissions it must be half decent.
Been using Red Line HD Shock Proof which worked well. Man that stuff stinks when you drain it out and let it sit in a container in your garage over night.
+1 the Redline Trans with Shock Proof and Redline V Twin Primary Oilhave always wored well for me in all 4 HDs from a 04 Sporty, 04 RK, 05 Fatboy to my 11 Glide
Yep. Redline Shockproof works well in my 2010 Ltd. But that Amsoil 20/50 should work well too. I've run it in two other bikes in the tranny with stellar results (a 2000 RK and a 2004 Ultra). If you have all of that noise, you might have something else going on inside the tranny. I hope not though.
I decided, just for the hell of it, to try the Redline Shockproof. So now I am trying it and so far so good. Had the HD stuff in there before, and it seemed to work fine as well.
Primary Amsoil 20w50
Trans Amsoil 75w-140
Engine Mobil-1 VTwin 20w-50
Just out of curiosity... If you use the Amsoil in the Primary and the Trans why not in the engine? Especially the 20W50 stuff you are using in the Primary, same stuff that you could use in the engine. Based on partially using Amsoil products it doesn't appear that you are an Amsoil hater or anything. Again, just curious.
You might want to try and ratchet your primary chain. Sounds like it could be a little loose and not a tranny problem at all. A friend had noises like you describe in 6th gear and it was a loose primary chain.
