Default Road Glide/ Electra Glide question

I've been lurking on this board for a few weeks gathering information. I don't own a Harley (but have had 3 in the past). I'm on a ST1300 Honda and just came off a riding a 1800 Goldwing for the past 3 years. The ST just isn't working out for me and as much as I loved the Wing I want to get another Harley. I rented a Road Glide last Saturday and really liked it except for one thing. The floor boards are more forward than I like. When I sit on a electra Glide my feet fall to just the right place. As far as I can tepp these 2 bikes are the same except for the fairings so why is that? Is it just that the seat on the Road Glide sits back more? Also, is it possible to add a jack for helmet headsets on the Road Glide (like the Ultras have)?

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

Nice bike, I like the ST too, although I haven't had the opportunity to ride one. I have an '05 Road Glide and noticed the same thing coming off of a Buell S3T, I think it's the handle bars that make the bike feel that way, they pull you farther forward than the Electra Glide.
I've done two things to get over it, 1,remove the heel shifter so you can move your foot back and 2, get used to it! I know it seems like you shouldn't need to but like the Buell I have come to like the riding position on the RG.
The Road Glide is a great bike and I hope you get one, you won't be sorry!

The footboards are in the same place on the roadglide and classic. Identical bikes except for the fairing. It has to be the seat or handlebars as mentioned before that makes the difference.

You can buy the Ultra kit for your roadglide (which goes on the dash like an ultra) which gives you the headphone jack. It is rather expensive though. I don't know anyother way to take care of the problem.

One thing to look at is the floor boards are adjustable on boththe Harleys. They have 3 positons which can make a big difference in feet placement. I started with mine in bottom position which tends to move them forward somewhat. I ended up putting them in top position whch halps in cornering and leg reach. I think with the adjustments either bike would work for you, just a matter of preference.

Thanks to all for the information. I didn't think about the floorboard adjustment but I need to look at that. I'm going to rent a Ultra and try that out also but I guess I'm one of the few who like the looks of the Road Glide fairing better than than the bat wing one...but by the time I add a trunk and all the Ultra comes out a bit better price wise I guess.

I didn't know they were adjustable. I'll have to look at them today.
