Cyberm>> Look at the brightside; you are in good hands with Destination. After your last comment; I'm scratching my head!

I was going to ask this very question because I need to repaint a saddlebag that I scratched from dropping the bike. Thanks.

beary>> Factory's Vivid black or VW Jet black or solid black of any automobile or motorcycle brand are all the same color tone as long as they are only black.
There are 100s of shades of white, blue, green and other colors, but there is only one true black color. If a paint job is pearl black, or black metallic; then it is no longer totally black!

The problem with black color not matching other parts is often due to not using the right clear top coat! Most local painters use custom clear coats that are intended for custom applications and are often glossier than the factory clear coat! For example; if we would paint your saddlebag & lid; we use any jet black and clear coat it with a clear coat that imitates the factory finish not only in clarity, but also in texture!! You will not be able to tell any difference.
Also; poor quality clear top coats often yellow slightly within just a few years and the black that was matching initially, is no longer a match!

I picked up a Vivid Black 2012 FLTRU in late October. When I was taking delivery I noticed the front fender paint didn't match the rest of the bike. I pointed it out to the sales person and he got the warranty dude out to have a look and take some pictures. My dealer was great, they said "no problem we will order you a new fender", right there on the spot. About a month later the new fender showed up and they replaced the original. After looking at your pictures my front fender looked EXACTELY like your tank, it had a blue hue to it. I am positive this is a factory control problem, my dealer was red faced that it had gone through the dealer prep and detail shop without anyone noticing. I hope your experience is the same but the moral of the story is don't take no for an answer, we pay a lot to advertise for H-D.

Default Whoa!!!!

I have a 2012 Ulta Limited in Vivid black and my tank kinda looks like the clear coat is cloudy...just like yours, but maybe not that bad.. Yours almost looks Grey to me. I thought is was my eyes. I need to pull the side covers off and check it close.

I want to paint this bike anyway to get rid of the silver pin stripes. So Paint the Fairing, tank, side covers and saddle bags...oh and the small stripe on the back of the tour pack.

I wanted the Street glide look...all black with no pin stripes.

2nd Update:
Brought the scoot up to Destination, spoke to the salesperson and he noticed and agreed immediately, kinda "redfaced" that it was not caught at factory or PDI level.
We brought it into the service area, one more look from the service advisor and they're ordering my new tank immediately!!!
I have to say its my first time dealing with Destination and they have been great, both my bike and I have been treated with respect, no hard times or BS. All in all it took less than 20 minutes to get this taken care of!
So I'll be riding my "unique" bike for the time being and definitively looking forward to their call that the new tank is in.
I'll definitively post up pics and a update as soon as the tank is in and on the bike. Again many thanks to all of you for the posts and advice.
